Yatagan Sword – The Silent Power of Turkish Martial Tradition
During the Ottoman era, the Yatagan was especially favored by the Janissaries. More than just a type of sword, it was an essential extension of close-combat techniques. With its curved form, balanced weight, and portability, the Yatagan stood as one of the most functional sword designs of its time — and now it is reborn through modern techniques.
The Yatagan Sword by Ottokaf unites this historic legacy with high-quality materials, disciplined craftsmanship, and functional balance.
Curved Form: The Distinct Geometry of the Yatagan
The most defining feature of the Yatagan is its slight forward curve and its design with the center of balance close to the wrist. This provides both controlled cutting power and agility at close range. The total length and curvature are defined with precise measurements, faithful to original Yatagan forms.
This ensures that the piece preserves its historical identity visually while offering authentic balance in handling.
Steel Quality: 4034 & 4116 Stainless Alloy
The blade is forged from stainless steel alloys 4034 and 4116, known for their superior strength and sharpness. After shaping, the steel undergoes vacuum heat treatment, reaching 54–55 HRC Rockwell hardness. This process enhances the cutting edge’s durability while reinforcing the structural integrity of the blade.
Handle Material: Root Walnut and Curved Grip Balance
The handle is crafted from carefully selected root walnut wood, giving each sword a unique natural grain. Its shape follows the traditional “eared” design of Yatagan handles, providing firm wrist support and a secure grip.
The wooden surface is treated with protective oils, ensuring resistance against environmental effects while enriching the depth of its natural color.
Assembly & Integrity: Strength Through Riveting
The junction between the steel blade and the wooden handle is reinforced with a multi-point riveting system. This method guarantees that the structure does not loosen or break under impact, preserving its form over time. Every assembly stage is executed with precision and craftsmanship.
Brass Details & Laser Engraving Option
Details such as the pommel and handle ends are made from original cast brass to complete the traditional design. Polishing brings out the natural luster of the metal.
Optional laser engraving allows names, motifs, or dates to be permanently inscribed on the blade without harming the steel.
Inspired by History, Empowered by Technique
The Ottokaf Yatagan Sword does not merely imitate a historical design; it faithfully reproduces it through modern engineering, premium materials, and skilled craftsmanship.
This sword is not only a tribute to the past but also a functional piece designed for today’s collectors.
Balanced, powerful, and true to form — this Yatagan speaks for itself.
